After seeing so many topics being raised on the Dexless / Low Dex Sin, I've decided to come up with this mini-guide. I hope that other dexless / low dex Sins can contribute to this as well by posting your comments and remarks.
Before I go on let me Stress a few things first:
1) This guide is not for beginners / players who are new to Maple Story, many of the concepts explained in here are pretty advanced and will confuse new players. If you are a new player reading this to learn how to play the Assasin, look to the criditable topics, there are some guides there which are pretty good.
2) While the idea of Dexless / Low Dex Sin does not originate from me, a large part of this guide are my ideas or have been sourced and research by me, therefore I would ask that if anyone wishes to use any part of this on another website, kindly inform me.
3) The term Dexless / Low dex Sin actually refers to the AP builds. For more information about how to allocate your SP, please look at other guides.
4) You will need your stats to start off as a 4/4 i.e Str and Int must be 4 each. If it's 5/4, you are better off re rolling the dice or to restart the character, as you will soon realise that the cost of an additional DEX point for the low Dex Sin is extremely high!
THE GEAR
Glove: max scrolled = +15 DEX
Cape: max scrolled = +15 DEX
Shoes: max scrolled = +21 DEX (snowshoes)
max scrolled = +15 DEX (other thief shoes)
Overall: max scrolled = +50 DEX
If we add all up, the maximum possible +DEX you can possibly get is +101 DEX, however most will reserve the glove for +Att, so we'll just be looking at +86 DEX as the maximum scrolled DEX possible for a Thief.
Practically, and financially constraints, we are looking at around +40 DEX for a well built Low DEX sin.
Let us first look at the various builds:
The No Dex / Dexless Build
The Principles: To have Dex capped at 25(min. required for a thief) and to add DEX using scrolls in order to wear higher level claws.
The Analysis: This build is more of a idiosyncracy, to cap your base dex at 25 is practically impossible at later levels. i.e at level 80, you would require 120 Dex to equip the level 80 Claw. Thus you would need +95 DEX from scrolled equipment, which is virtually impossible. ..
Typical Equipment:
Godly scrolled Meba??
+DEX Cape
+DEX Sauna Robe / Avenger
+DEX Snow Shoes
maybe +DEX gloves at higher levels if you insist on not adding DEX, but want to equip high level claw.
The Low Dex Build
The Principles: To maximise Dex possible from scrolled equipment to allow the assasin to equip the highest level claw possible.
The Analysis: This build promises higher damage achievable by allowing you to put your AP into LUK and getting the DEX required for equiping claws from scrolling equipment for DEX. This build will allow you to have a higher damage than normal assasins. However the cost of scrolling equipment is extremely high, if you want to achieve a decently scrolled set of equipment
Typical Equipment:
+DEX Cape
+DEX Sauna Robe / Avenger
+DEX Snow Shoes
Green Bamboo Hat / Pilfer(+3DEX) / Sonata / Identity (deps on your Dex)
Glove: Any Glove ( But most scroll workglove for it's easy availability and cheap cost)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Normal Sin Build
The Principles: To be able to wear the best set of equipment for the level.
The Analysis: Easy to play, dont have to worry about your DEX and getting scrolls, just add enough dex from AP enough to equip the best equipment at that level. Recommended for most new players.
Typical Equipment: Best Equipment at your level.
The Hybrid Sin Build
The principles: To maximise LUK and DEX that is economically viable in order to achieve the maximum damage possible.
The Analysis: This build is very similar to the Low Dex build, but dont be mistaken, they are not the same. While low Dex build focus on getting maximum DEX out of a piece of equipment by scrolling, i.e using snowshoes to scroll so that 7 slots means higher chance of getting higher DEX, the hybrid sin does this differently, instead of snowshoes, the hybrid sin uses equipment that is 1 to 2 steps lower than the current level, i.e using lvl 60/70 equipment at level 80 and uses equipment DEX bonus to help equiping the lvl 80 claw as well as scrolling the equipment for additional DEX.
The PitFall
While the lure of the low dex sin to deal much more damage is so strong, most people failed to realise that the benefits are often overated.
1. A normal Sin would have a +16-21 LUK from all equipment(excluding Claw) at level 80, if you managed to achieve +40 dex from all equipment, you are only 20 DEX more or 4 levels better than the normal Sin.
2. In terms of advantage in damage, it gets watered down as your levels increased. i.e At level 50 LUK for average Sin is around 200. A 20 DEX difference is 10% more in terms of damage. At level 90, the LUK for average Sin is around 400, the 20 DEX difference is now only 5% difference in terms of damage. At level 130 it becomes around 3%, almost negligible.
Is it then worth the amount of time to collect the scrolls ( if you are scrolling by yourself) or the mesos spent? Only yourself have the answer, it takes a lot of time and determination to be a Low Dex Sin.
I guess that's all for the introduction for this guide. I hope it's not too confusing.
I'll try to put up some calculations as well as some examples so that it'll be clearer. Meanwhile, feel free to post your comments and questions, I'll add them as we go along
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Strategy
I'll divide this into 3 stages:
1) The opening (Levels 1-49)
2) The middle game (Levels 50-70)
3) The end game (Levels 70-)
1) The Opening - Training a low dex sin, preparation should start before you even start your character. Having enough resources to scroll equipment is very important, be warned that not having enough resources would mean that you probably have to rescroll all your equipment, or end up possibly weaker than the normal Sin towards higher levels.
After your job change at level 10 to become a rogue, here is where the fun begins. At this portion, there is an interesting point that I would like to highlight:
YOUR DEX REQUIREMENT is 2 x LEVEL
What is the significance? This means that the advantage of a low dex sin is possibly greater at this stage than any other stages.
Eg1. If I am using normal Meba(+7) and Kumbi and I have scrolled glove / shoes / sauna robe that adds to +25, I will have base DEX of 25 and my Weapon Att is 23+21=44, and my LUK at level 30 is ard 150.
My Base damage for L7 would be [(5.0*LUK) / 100]* Weapon Attack = 5*150/100*44 = 330
For a normal Sin, using normal Guards(+7) and Kumbi, base DEX of 60 and Weapon Att is 23+21=44, and LUK at level 30 is ard 115, lets say there is LUK bonuses from equipment, so add 6, LUK = 121
Base Damage = 5*121/100*46 = 278.3
Difference in damage = (330 - 278.3)/ 278.3 = 18.5%
Eg2. If I am using normal Meba(+7) and Kumbi and I have scrolled glove / shoes / sauna robe that adds to +25, I will have base DEX of 25 and my Weapon Att is 23+21=44, and my LUK at level 45 is ard 225.
My base damage for L7 would be [(5.0*LUK) / 100]* Weapon Attack = 5*225/100*44 = 495
For a normal Sin, it would be Avarice(+7), Base DEX is 80, WA = 29+21 = 50, LUK at level 45 is ard 170, lets say there is LUK bonuses from equipment, so add 10, LUK = 180
so, Base damage for L7 would be 5*180/100* 50 = 450
Even using a Meba vs Avarice would give an advantage of about 10% more in damage.
2) The Middle Game - If you have used a Meba til this point, it's when you will start panicking about your DEX being not enough to don the Sapphire Slain. Either be prepared to get better scrolled equipment or to add your DEX during the last few levels before 50. Either way, be prepared for a hard time adjusting. By now your gear should be sufficiently scrolled to 90 DEX at least.
At this stage, having a pure low dex build would be better than a hybrid build.
At this stage, you can consider scrolling your Sapphire slain with 10% or 60% and using it over gigantic, mainly because gigantic is grossly overpriced. Slains are cheap in comparison.
From here, basically your Sin will start to be self-sufficient and probably make a bit of $$. You can consider either to keep your Dex at 90 and try to scroll again at level 70, or if you are already happy with your scrolling, u can just keep matching your dex to wear better claws.
3)The End game - This is probably where you will be finalising your scrolled equipment, until there are better claws coming out, the maximum DEX you will ever require is 120. Here is where you see that the hybrid Sin actually shines.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hybrid Sin Gear at level 80
Glove: lvl 70 Gold Rover +4 LUK or you can use lvl 60 Gold Pow for the same effect (+3 LUK, +1 DEX) or Work Glove? so that it's easier to make a Godly Att Glove.
Shoes: lvl 70 Red Mystique Shoes +3 LUK +1 DEX or lvl 60 Dark Moss shoes same effect, most likely to be Dark Moss as your combined Dex might not be enough for lvl 70 shoes.
Cape: Cape lvl 25 Ragged Cape (+10 Avoid is cool)
Overall: Sauna Robe or Avenger
Hat: lvl 70 Nightfox
Low Dex Sin Gear at level 80
Glove: Work Glove I guess, it's all about that Godly Att Glove.
Shoes: Snowshoes
Cape: Cape lvl 25 Ragged Cape (+10 Avoid is cool)
Overall: Sauna Robe or Avenger
Hat: lvl 70 Nightfox, I hope, unless there are still those who prefer the good old green bamboo hat.
Normal Sin at level 80
All level 80 gear.
Comparison: Normal vs Hybrid
1. lvl 80 gear, you dont get to enjoy the DEX bonuses, as you already need to have your base DEX at that level, i.e DEX must be 120 to wear level 80 armor.
2. The LUK bonus you get from lvl 80 equipment is <5 more than lvl 70. Based on this, your DEX bonuses alone from the lvl 70 equipment is sufficient to cover.
3. Not to mention that your well-scrolled sauna robe would be much better than the lvl 80 top and bottom
bonuses.
4. lvl 70 gear is cheaper.
Comparison: Hybrid vs Low Dex
1. Probably the only and the main difference is the snowshoes and lvl 60 shoes.
2. The snowshoes gives a higher maximum potential, but the lvl 60 gives more of a guaranteed result.
Max. for snowshoes is +21DEX, Max. for the lvl 60 shoe is +16DEX and 3 LUK, which is only a different of 2 points. and the chances are 2 slots of 10% chance compared to 3LUK and 1DEX. .. which way would you go?
